Internship Workshop
Heading for a summer internship? Looking to get one next year? Even professors will tell you no class can compare to real newsroom experience.

Come hear Orlando Sentinel recruiter Dana Eagles discuss what he looks for when choosing an intern--and what he listens for once that intern goes to work.

Learn how to wow your editors and steer clear of their pet peeves. Network with other journalists and discuss internship opportunities. And, as always, free pizza!

SPJ Internship Opportunity

The Orlando Sentinel is offering a $6,000 scholarship for UCF digital
media students interested in digital/multimedia journalism.

Applications are now available online for the May 15 deadline. The
student awarded this scholarship will be offered one of three
internship opportunities at the Sentinel: Web producer with Orlando
CityBeat, multimedia producer or video producer, or Web journalism
intern.

The scholarship winner will complete a 15-to-20-hour-a-week internship
for two semesters. Applicants must be in good standing with a minimum
3.0 GPA.

The application may be downloaded
http://www.dm.ucf.edu/download/Sentinel_Scholorship_Appllication.pdf.
Applications are also available in Digital Media, Orlando Tech Center
500, 12461 Research Parkway. More information: Michelle Ferrier,
407-823-3610, mferrier@mail.ucf.edu.

So the application says digital media majors, but I'd thought I'd
bring it to everyone's attention in case you are a double major in
digital media and journalism.

Internship Opportunity

http://www.democracymatters.org/content.php?type=internshipdescription

Democracy Matters is accepting applications for paid internships through our Campus Intern Program. We are a non-partisan organization of students and professors working on campuses across the country to educate people about the role of money in politics, and its impact on democracy. We call for alternatives that can reform and revitalize our political process thereby deepening democracy in the United States. Specifically, we organize around issues of campaign finance reform, full and partial public funding of elections, and election reform. We differ from other political groups on campus in that we are not a political party and we do not concern ourselves with specific races. Instead, we are concerned with the process of campaigns-especially fundraising-and issues specifically related to political accountability and democracy. Campus Coordinators are expected to work 10 hours/week.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be on March 26 from 5-6 in COM 213.

Your cover letter for a journalism job or internship can make or break you. It must be compelling, persuasive and concise--and it's not like a business cover letter! Join editors and producers from Orlando Weekly, Central Florida News 13 and Orlando Business Journal in a workshop on the best--and worst--ways to write a cover letter. Bring your own cover letter and get professional advice. Network with other journalists and discuss internship opportunities. And, as always, free pizza.
